For the last month or so I have been trying to connect my IPod Touch V 3.1.2 (7D11) to the Optimum Online WIFI hotspots located throughout NJ, NY, and CT ( I have an account).  I have been to 30 - 40 sites within 10 miles of my home in Northern NJ.  I have connected to only about 15% of the Hotspots I have visited. (They have a WIFI Map so I know where they are).  When I go to the WIFI settings I often see numbers in the IP Addres, Subnet Mask, Router, and DNS fields on the Optimum site. However most of the time I dont connect to the Internet.  Optimum Online tells me the see my ipod as connected.  One recent day this past week I connected to 8 out of 10 consecutive sites ( and got through to the internet) I went to.  The next day I went to 6 other sites (2 of which I have successfully connected to in the past) and could not connect.  I have a home wifi network that I always connect to without a  probelm.  I have tried using the "Forget this Network" button to block out the commcast signal.  I have also tried renew lease, power down or reset network settings but the problem still persits.

On most alll of these sites there is also a very strong commcast signal.  I have regisited my ipods mac address with Optonline.  Originally I tried to connect using Safari but this didnt work because the login screen doesnt come up all of the time.  One day I even got the Commcast login screen to pop up  without trying.

Has anyone had succes with these outdoor wifi hotspots,  They are typically located near parks.  They are identified by a white box the size of a lunch box with 3 small elbows sticking out of one side of the box. Does anyone know if you can logon as both commcast and optonline.  Some times I only see the 4 IP numbers on the commcast site and not the optonline site.  If anyone is experinceing these problems or had repeated success in using this service let me know
