my daughter has a new ipod touch.. I am having problems trying to connect to wifi!

Here are my questions.. please can anyone help?!!

1) How do you know which network is the one to connect to on the list for the wifi networks??

2/ what does renew lease mean??

3/ tried to connect to a network and it wont connect!

HELP!!
