I recently bought an ipod Touch, mainly so I could access the internet through wifi while travelling.I have not yet been able to access the internet once. All the settings are in place, I have tried to join networks both with and without passwords and nothing. Is it me or is it the ipod? At the moment I´d love to return it,but that´s a little difficult right now as I bought it on amazon.co.uk andam currently in Buenos Aires.Am beginning to feel the whole wifi access thing is a complete myth spun by Apple.Help!

Don't give up! I have had similar problems. Some wireless routers (free access or requiring passowrds) give me access to the internet and others don't and I have no idea why. In the UK one of our big providers is BT. Some BT wireless routers give me access and others don't. I can also get access through SKY broadband as well and some others. It's bizarre!

I've tried all the suggested fixes but they don't seem to work where I experience problems.

Part 1  I'm in the US so it may be different.  I can easily access my own router here at home, but I set up the router--and also use a net radio which accesses the wifi.  When I am out (I live in a smaller less urbanized area with small city) I can find wifi access at many places--our libraries, coffee shops, our small DT square is fully wifi-ed (if there is such a word LOL), restaurants, some stores--motels/hotels when we travel.  There are many secured networks that it picks up but of course I don't have passwords for them, but just don't have any problem connecting to unsecured/public networks.  Some require you to check that you agree to the TOS to continue but then once that's done, continue without problem.

Part 2
I don't know this--but are there different standards for wifi???  I did read about the issue with Israel not allowing Ipads in because their broadband usage was not in line with European standards--so I don't know.  I do believe that the Touch will only recognize B/G routers (this is not my forte, but I remember reading that--because I had been considering buying a new N router).  My older Syslink router allows me to connect the Touch quite a distance away from it.  We live on 20 acres and when I'm walking I can pick up Pandora quite a distance away.  However, once it breaks the link, I have to get closer to reconnect.

So--perhaps start with checking if the router is B/G or N.
